Energy Savings Qualification Requirements

If you are enrolled in the following programs, you are automatically eligible for our services but still need to show proof of receiving these benefits and your income: Medicaid (for adults), SSI/SSDI, LIHEAP, LIWAP, CIP, SNAP, Head Start, Duke Customer Assistance Program (CAP).

If you are not part of the above programs, then to QUALIFY, you must meet all of the following 3 requirements:
  1. Rent or own your home

    PLEASE NOTE:

    If you live in an apartment, your utility must be individually metered and your bill cannot be included in your rent.

  2. Gross Household Income must be at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines:

    1 - person household $31,920
    2 - person household:      $43,280
    3 - person household:      $54,640
    4 - person household:      $66,000
    5 - person household:      $77,360
    6 - person household:      $88,720
    7 - person household:      $100,080
    8 - person household:      $111,440


    Each Additional Person $5680
    The levels above reflect 2026 Federal Poverty Levels.

  3. Provide at least ONE proof of income for EACH ADULT in the household.

    • SSI / Supplemental Security Income Award Letter (most recent)

    • SSDI / Disability Award Letter (most recent)

    • One month’s worth of pay stubs

    • Latest Tax Forms (1040 / W-2 / 1099)

    • Veteran’s Benefits

    • IF Unemployed: Statement of No Documented Income

We need your latest Duke Energy Bill, including the highlighted sections in the screenshot below: 

  • Service Address

  • Account Number

  • Your Usage Snapshot

The bill must include at least 3 months of usage.

It does not matter if the Bill is in someone else’s name. Just the service address must match your address.

You can upload a mobile phone photo of your paper copy or a downloaded digital copy from Duke's website, per instructions below:

To access your Duke Bill online:
1) Go to www.duke-energy.com and login or register.
2) On your Account Dashboard screen there should be a “View Bill” button in the Summary section. 
3) Download or take a screenshot of the PDF so that you can upload.

Upload your Documents: Proof of gross income

From the options below for EACH ADULT in the household.

  • SSI / Supplemental Security Income Award Letter (most recent)

  • SSDI / Disability Award Letter (most recent)

  • One month’s worth of pay stubs

  • Latest Tax Forms (1040 / W-2 / 1099)

  • Veteran’s Benefits

  • IF unemployed or do not have any “documented income” then sign our Statement of No Documented Income
